More temptation - Mercedes Collection by DeAgostini

I mean, it is like a red rag to a bull.....

DeAgostini have recently launched their take on the collection series via Mercedes Benz.

Like the Opel Collection, this is only available within the German speaking countries of Europe - AT, DE & CH.

And they are getting me to spend my money as well - CHF25.90 is quite expensive when you can actually get them in Germany for €12.99, but I just don't have time to go there and grab a copy and by the time you have got in the car and driven across the border, you have already spent time and effort that you didn't need to.

Like the Opel Collection, I am going to pick and choose what I want - I am more after stuff from the 1960s to date. The models are made by Altaya and not IXO - but they all look good so far.

I have got the first few models from this collection -

1954 300SL Gullwing
1963 230SL "Pagoda"
1963 600 Pullman - which is a beast of a casting!

This is the staple diet of Minichamps and AutoArt - at around £18.99 in Swiss money this is not that bad a buy - as the former hit around £40 a shot.

Photos and reviews to follow - but I am going to be skint.

  1. Thank you for news of this new one, Keith.
Just want to point out that Altaya is a subsidiary company of DeAgostini, distributing partworks in Spain, France and South America ... they don't make the diecast models themselves, though.
The company that owns Ixo is PCT (Premium & Collectibles Trading) and they produce models for partworks under a whole range of names, such as Sonic International Toys and Ocean Metal Factory. Although I haven't seen one of these Mercedes Collection models "in the flesh" I would nevertheless say that they have come from PCT. With the recent recession that caused several diecast factories in China to go bust (spectacularly so in the case of Hot Works and Creative Masters!), the partwork distributors now have fewer doors to knock on when it comes to contracting out production, and PCT appears to have the best capacity of those still standing.

  3. Keith, I've discovered that this partwork was previously run in France by Altaya as "La légende MERCEDES-BENZ" from August 2007 through to July 2009 (50 issues):
